We Are The Cold War

Gorbachev peacefully retired the Soviet Union, but we give Reagan and ourselves credit for ending the cold war. We’re the good guys.
Except that we lied to Gorbachev about dismantling NATO.
We interfered in Russian politics. We are resented for helping Yeltzin get elected.

We used terrorism as an excuse to put nuclear missiles in other countries, creating a more immediate threat to Russia with a need for quicker triggers.

If the cold war ended, why does our “defense” budget keep ballooning?

We do not allow Russia or China to be well motivated. Their constructive moves are dismissed as always “to maintain power” or for “public relations”.

Socialism was a threat to our system, but not like we think. We are social beings who support each other. Capitalism is jungle law. A social, supportive system is a better idea. So we destroy or vilify more social systems that could stand as better examples to live by than our reactionary, material motivation that makes us the sole proprietor of continued cold war.

Thank you for your time.
