Humanisn’t

Decades ago, Humanism was a place for concerned thinkers to have a secular discussion without religious constraints, a refuge for agnostics and atheists.

Secular used to be defined as being non-religious. Humanism became associated with the secular.

Over time, agnostics prove to be less dedicated to an open mind than atheists are to replacing spirituality for the idea that infinity accidentally created itself and the infinitesimally presumptuous and rather unscientific “multiverse”.

So atheism has pretty much commandeered Humanism and now people seem to identify it, along with the word “secular” as “anti-religious”, as opposed to “non-religious”, which is too bad. The universe is full of incomprehensible and subtle stuff. Non religious thought is more inclusive. Why exclude any ideas in an existence we know so little about?

Some science infers an intentional universe, like the recent and respected theory of the simulated universe. Here, atheism gets in the way.

Where is the agnostic faith in the open mind? We don’t have to pick a side or go inside like everyone else from the ideas raining down all around us. We could use a little more rain, anyway.

Out of frustration, I started Huminimism.net. The story is about discovering the bane of humanity, and that’s how I realized that Humanism is an exclusive drag. The story is free and contact goes to my e-mail. Criticism gratefully appreciated. -Joshua Bender, Huminimist.
